Fuel economy in my grandma's Focus SE, amidoinrite?

That's mighty impressive.

The stop and go island traffic coupled with heavy acceleration will do that to you.

When I had a 2012 SEL I averaged that every tank. Short drives on the highway that don't warm the car up until I am almost at work combined with a heavy foot and town traffic will do that to you. Long drives it was great as long as you were below 70, but normal driving I couldn't even get close to the 33 combined or 27 city it was supposed to get.

I once pulled 7.3mpg in my Lincoln.
Yes. You read that right.

No Eco champion for you! Ha.

oooo sky blue needles
![]() 05/30/2014 at 12:23 |

Definitely not! I can't imagine what I would get if I decide to get an ST.
![]() 05/30/2014 at 12:23 |

better than my car's mpg :(
![]() 05/30/2014 at 12:23 |

Heavy traffic or general hoonery?

You have to know the secret handshake.

Too high.

That's exactly the kind of driving I do when I'm driving my grandma about in her car. I've only ever seen 30 mpg on the highway a couple of times now that the roads are a bit emptier due to vacation.

I shared your comment, the admins should be on it soon.

Better than both my Malibu and my W140 so I know your pain.
![]() 05/30/2014 at 12:29 |

I'll have to sneak it out for some midnight hoon runs then.

Thank you so much. I am try to post an article in the hopes it helps a friend sell a Toby Keith F-150 where a portion of the proceeds will go to charity.

I'm no good at handshakes; my hands are too large and goofy oh well. Maybe next time. ha ha.
![]() 05/30/2014 at 12:32 |

Well my granny cannot into shifting so that's all can manage lol.
![]() 05/30/2014 at 12:32 |

Perfectly reasonable choice actually.

When I first got the ST, I had mine at 14.5. Seeing it get the same average mileage as the Tundra frightened me.
![]() 05/30/2014 at 12:38 |

Still seems like it's worth it. Maybe soon.

Thank you so much for your help.

Man that's insane! Being really nice to my ST yielded 29.7 over ~60 miles. (But then it dropped as I sat trying to take a picture.)
![]() 05/30/2014 at 12:56 |
|
I reset it for my morning commute and tried for the worst mileage possible over 3 miles. This what I ended up with. Focus ST, BTW.
![]() 05/30/2014 at 13:05 |
|
I'll admit, I haven't been very nice to that throttle lol. I'm actually considering an ST myself.
![]() 05/30/2014 at 13:07 |
|
I should try that and see what I can get.
![]() 05/30/2014 at 13:09 |

I tried the opposite one day as well:
Crappy picture, but I think you can make it out.
![]() 05/30/2014 at 13:10 |
|
I get an average of 28 in my ST..... I'm not doing it right.
![]() 05/30/2014 at 13:14 |
|
My grandma's car has never seen mileage that good, lol.
![]() 05/30/2014 at 13:15 |
|
Well the lifetime MPG was 20.2 and that's with abot 15-20% hoonage including mashing the throttle pulls to (and above with my parents) the speed limit. Oh and my dad's favorite hobby is revving the engine while sitting still so there's that.
Was this the overall MPG or over a trip btw?
![]() 05/30/2014 at 13:16 |
|
Focus or Fiesta? I'm averaging 24.7 right now in my Focus ST.
![]() 05/30/2014 at 13:18 |
|
Focus surprisingly enough haha. I don't drive super hard often. Gotta save some gas for the commute...
![]() 05/30/2014 at 13:20 |
|
Overall mpg. A little bit of hoonage mixed in with stop and go traffic is why it's so low, for a non ST at least.
![]() 05/30/2014 at 13:26 |
|
I'm impressed! I guess I should see what happens if I keep my foot out of it sometime...
Nah.

Can I post to I just bought an Acura Integra I want to. Show you guys

I get that in the Magnum RT, at least one of us is....
![]() 05/30/2014 at 15:38 |

Me, I prefer this.
![]() 05/30/2014 at 16:10 |

Diesel?
![]() 05/30/2014 at 16:23 |
|
Yes, look at the red line! Those are miles per imperial gallon but then again the car's only used on short journeys. Long trips will easily get 55 or so.
![]() 05/30/2014 at 16:49 |
|
That must be nice, at least for your wallet.
![]() 05/30/2014 at 17:17 |

Ahh. Ok.
![]() 05/30/2014 at 22:07 |
|
I managed to get 23 out of a Geo Metro once.
![]() 05/30/2014 at 22:10 |
|
How much hoonery was involved?
![]() 05/30/2014 at 22:12 |
|
More than you can possibly imagine.
![]() 05/31/2014 at 04:52 |
|
It would be except that it's my father's car!
My FTO is rather less abstemious. Then again it doesn't have a 5,000 rpm red line.
![]() 05/31/2014 at 11:50 |
|
The average for my GTI since I got it in February is just about 19 mpg. But then my commute to work is 2.5 miles through traffic so that probably brings it down quite a bit. Out on the highway it gets about 30.
![]() 05/31/2014 at 15:58 |
|
I borrowed the car for a day trip. Here's the outcome:
Equivalent to about 58 mpUSg and no fancy hypermiling involved.
![]() 05/31/2014 at 16:32 |
|
I wonder how well those would sell over here. I just think people still associate diesel with trucks or construction vehicles over here.
![]() 05/31/2014 at 17:32 |

Wouldn't be cost effective for a small car with US fuel prices and emissions standards. Yes, I know VW sell them but same applies there. The car I drove is a 95 bhp 1.6 which your market would think much too small (despite the fact that it cruises happily and quietly at any legal speed you care to name).
